The survey has been created by Women in Boatbuilding (WIBB), for the benefit of all. WIBB has worked in conjunction with the Diversity Study Group, who have been gathering similar data on the shore-based shipping industry for the last 5 years.
The aim is to get an overview about who works in the industry, their background & skills. Unless industry data about the workforce from across leisure marine boatbuilding is gathered, there is a risk that decisions will be based on anecdotal knowledge, rather than monitoring trends and responding to facts, the team at Women in Boatbuilding explains.
“With all yards experiencing skills shortages, the industry needs to collaborate to define who it is and use that data to create targeted action that makes a difference and can compete with other sectors and countries.”
