The Wooden Boat Gathering is back! Following the success of the inaugural event in 2022, the Wooden Boatbuilders’ Trade Association once again presents three days of wooden boats, talks and tours from 28-30 June, hosted by the Windermere Jetty Museum.
Windermere Jetty Museum sits on the shores of Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District. It’s a stunning location, as WBTA Chairman Colin Henwood explained in W163 earlier this year. “The Jetty museum is fascinating; housed in brilliant modern architecture, it’s truly an inspiring and extraordinary place.”
The weekend aims to bring together wooden boat enthusiasts and craftspeople – as well the boats themselves – and provide an opportunity to meet, share stories and enjoy time on the water. “This is not a slick ‘sales’ event”, Colin points out. “There will be no exhibition stands, just the opportunity to talk boats, get out on the water and learn new ways with wood.”
Speakers this year are wooden boatbuilders Gail McGarva and Abbey Molyneux, linocut artist and painter James Dodds and forest scientist and photographer Gabriel Hemery; an impressive line-up of outstanding craftspeople working with wood. And it’s not just about good company; a delicious buffet meal will be served in the museum restaurant on the Saturday evening – a great chance to socialise with fellow wooden boat lovers.
