The Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis is offering bursaries for their flagship 40-week Boat Building course, as well as for their 12-week furniture making course and all short courses.
The bursaries are designed to make BBA courses more accessible to individuals who have the passion and dedication but might be facing financial constraints. The bursaries are limited in number and, in the case of the 40-week boat building and 12-week furniture courses, are dependent on the offer of a place and a successful bursary interview.
These bursaries are intended to support students who demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and a genuine interest in boat building and woodworking. A maximum of 50% of the course fee is normally offered, but in exceptional circumstances 100% of the course fee will be offered.
In addition to these established bursaries, the BBA is introducing a Bursary for Women, with the aim of providing financial assistance to female students in Boat Building and Furniture Making, helping to extinguish the stigma around women in practical skills industries.
For students local to Dorset and parts of Devon and Somerset, there is a BBA Bursary for Locals scheme. Eligible candidates can apply for any BBA course from 1-day short courses up to the 40-week long course.
With the February 2024 40-week course start fast approaching, interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible, to ensure they are considered for this opportunity. Further information and application forms are available on the Boat Building Academy website here.
